BACKGROUND:
Cardiac and accelerated cardiovascular disease is one of the major causes of Adult mortality in Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique.
Through family practice and Internal medicine physicians most patients previously received good preventative medical education, limited diagnostic evaluation, treatment and no interventional procedures.
The Provision of good longitudinal Cardiological care in the absence of a resident Cardiologist and interventional facilities have for far long been a challenge to the local Medical community and their Patients.

St. George’s University Fosters Partnerships to Improve Cardiology Care
Coordinator of St. George’s University’s Visiting Adult Cardiology Program, Dr. Johansen Sylvester reports the treatment of more than 200 heart patients during the last sixteen months of the program. Through this initiative, the University and the Ministry of Health facilitate the provision of secondary cardiology services free of cost to patients. The care was provided during more than 40 clinics which have been held in Grenada and Carriacou, with the General Hospital’s Outpatient Department as the primary centre.
